Life on Earth Log 007 | Fun Holiday Plans Postponed Again

Image
Our plans this week include general cleanup and putting up some Christmas decor. It's late, I know, but the store looks a bit boring without them. We might attract more customers when we make the store look festive for the holidays. It's been really busy and this week is our last chance to decorate. Which reminds me, we need to decorate the church building as well, not in the common holiday fashion, but to promote Thanksgiving Day on December 24. On top of all these we still need to keep the business running and I currently have a design project. The good thing is I can freely schedule all these tasks. All plans have been settled, all schedules set. We just have to make them happen. This morning, I received one text that changed everything we had planned.

Christmas 2016 | Noche Buena in the Hospital

Image
We finished decorating the church auditorium around 4PM in the afternoon of Christmas Eve. We went back to the store so our cashier can go home just in time for Noche Buena. Christmas 2016 | Old School Promotion Work It's a Filipino tradition wherein families stay up late to feast in the midnight of December 25. It's a big deal for us Pinoys to put out the best celebration-worthy meal for our families. You can say it's the local equivalent of Thanksgiving here in the Philippines. image from PIXABAY

Responding to Stroke | The First Few Days

Image
This is an account of what our family experienced this week. I'm hoping our experience will provide insights to people caring for senior or near-senior family members. If your parents are already taking maintenance meds for either hypertension or diabetes, be alert for the signs of a stroke attack. image from PIXABAY This is the story of Tatay's first stroke attack.

The Firstborn That Wasn't Meant to Be

Image
I wish I never had to go through this but it seems that God has another plan... Forsaken by his brothers, didn’t fit the scene Being made a slave was not what Joseph dreamed The coat of many colors was stained with blood and lies But from this divine appointment, a ruler would arise  When God has another plan, walk on and just say yes When God has another plan, be assured that He knows best When all your dreams are shattered, rest in His sufficient grace We don’t have to understand, when God has another plan Alone and broken hearted, questions fill your mind Changes can be hard that come by God’s design But if you could see tomorrow with a view from Heaven’s Throne Every unexpected struggle has led you closer home It's funny. I learned this song around the time I was two weeks pregnant. As you noticed, the title already projects sad vibes. I do not intend to bring discouragement. I'm writing this because...

RSVP + Philippine Culture = ?

Image
RSVP is short for " Respondez, s'il vous plait ." Translated from French to English, it means "Please respond." How does it work? You simply have to confirm your attendance on or before a set date prior to the event. You should also inform the celebrator if you are uncertain of attending or won't make it to the event.  How should a guest respond? Most invitations include a response card which will be returned to the sender. Some invitations have contact numbers printed on them. The guest may send his response to the said contact number. If he is meeting the celebrator frequently, either they are neighbors or workmates, he may personally respond to the invitation. Why is a response important? The celebrator needs to know the final count of guests so he can inform the management of the venue, set seating arrangements, and inform the caterer. Is it necessary for a guest to provide more details than the response itself? Usually, t...

2015 in Perspective

Image
The holidays, and 2015 have been good to us, just as God has intended. In the beginning of 2016, I have a design project and several other project opportunities, Roy and I are preparing for our wedding, and our church is continuing to move forward. God is definitely healing us from all the pains of 2015, and guiding us to a better 2016. 2016 will be the year when everything changes. This fact is finally sinking in. God's Goodness in 2015 view from the balcony Who would have thought what happened to our church would be a blessing in disguise? Yes, we burned bridges, but we also built new ones. It was painful to experience a church being split, but God has restored His church and is continuing to do so. It is not worth holding on to the identity of a 'religious' sect that worships the 'pastor' more than the Lord and Savior of our souls. It is not worth holding on to 'properties' and 'facilities'  that are substandard, cost...

The Blessing of Children (part 1)

Image
While the young people's organization of our church gathered with their guests, we run a day care center at the back of the auditorium. :) This video was taken months ago, back when our church was still renting a function hall inside a commercial establishment in Pasay City. People come in the morning. Many stay in the venue for lunch and siesta while waiting for the afternoon service. This has been the routine until we transferred to another place.

Life on Earth Log 002

Image
Our weekend so far... I just had an unplanned retail therapy with my mother. With the Christmas season closing in, bargain centers like Divisoria and Baclaran are crowded during the remaining weekends. Baclaran and Divisoria are bargain centers where most merchandise are sold in bulk. Divisoria's proximity to the port makes it the place where you can buy almost anything from fashion items to technology to local and imported fruits and vegetables. Baclaran is a lot smaller to Divisoria in area and has less items. It's more known for selling clothing and shoes. Suprisingly, Baclaran has less visitors than I expected on a weekend  (or less vendors because of the clearing operations) during our latest visit. It finally made sense when my brother said, "Malinis na ang Baclaran." (Baclaran is clean now.) The clearing operation was effective. Underwear was on the top of the list. We bought panties! A lot of them! What an accomplishment! We bought some clothes tha...

The Search

Image
The venue is the first and foremost thing to be considered in planning a wedding; given that you and your hubby are 100% sure to commit to one another for the rest of your lives. When you already have the date of the event, reserve a venue right away. credits:  Pixabay Why is it so important to decide upon the location asap? The place dictates most, if not all other aspects of the event. How many guests can fit? What will they wear? What theme and motif suits the area? Do you need an additional sound system? How about additional lighting? How will the place be decorated? Our search began.

MOVIE REVIEW | Matilda

Image
Why can't I have books. Why blend in when you can be unique? "Matilda" celebrates the life of a unique but misunderstood child. Born to an undeserving family, Matilda struggled to find her significance in a world with crooked values. {SPOILER ALERT!}
